The Virginia Baptist Register
In 1962 the Virginia Baptist Historical Society launched an annual scholarly journal entitled The Virginia Baptist Register. Its goal from the beginning was to present previously unpublished articles which primarily aimed at early periods of Baptist history in Virginia. There have been 46 issues published as of 2007 with a total running page count of 2,354 pages. Every five years the issues are thoroughly indexed in separately printed indexes. The indexes alone form a useful tool for researchers and can refer the researcher to a specific article of possible interest.
The current issue features stories on Baptist hymnody, Baptist polity in the late 1700s, and an article on the long correspondence between two friends of the 19th century, J.B. Jeter and Daniel Witt.
To submit articles for possible inclusion in future issues, send copy to Editor, VBR, Virginia Baptist Historical Society, P.O. Box 34, University of Richmond, Va. 23173.
The Society cannot supply a full back run of the 46 issues. It can supply a full run of all but four issues and the four can be supplied as photocopies which can be kept separately from the full set.
A full run as described can be supplied while issues last for $255. In addition, a set of indexes can be purchased for $30. Individual issues of the indexes can be ordered for $12.00 each. Copies of the current Register and back issues are available for $8 each except the 1989 and 2000 issues which are $17.00 each. (All prices include shipping.)
